Agricultural Barns

2008 Private, Devon

Unseasoned UK Douglas Fir frame, unseasoned UK Larch cladding, Siberian Larch joinery.
15x8.5x6m high and 16x7x5.5m high.

Two functional agricultural outbuildings constructed with large–span traditional timber frames, waney-edged cladding and timber doors and shutters. The buildings incorporate louvred gables for ventilation and wildlife access! Glazed roof lights are provided for daylighting. The buildings occupy a sloping and elevated coastal site; the southern seaward elevations will bound a productive garden and orchard. Overshot roofs mirror the falling ground to provide weather protection and create an external storage and seating area – covering a timber decked “stoop” alongside one building.
